LONDON, August 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
UBM Live today announces the launch of Big Data, a new exhibition and conference designed to help businesses understand and capitalise on the full potential of big data.
It has been reported that Wal-Mart has 460 terabytes of data which, according to the New York Times, is more than twice the amount the entire Internet contained in 2004[1]. Mashable recently reported that every minute, Facebook users post 684,478 pieces of content and online shoppers spend an average of $272,070; the global Internet population grew 6.59% between 2010 and 2011 and now represents 2.1 billion people leaving data trails wherever they go[2]. Unlocking the value of big data thorough use of big data analytics is predicted to add £216 billion to the UK economy by 2017, dependent on businesses adopting solutions to gain a competitive advantage in their industry[3].
Clearly, this market is growing fast and Big Data will offer clarity, insight, innovation and education for professionals looking to harness its enormous business potential.
Set for 23rd - 25th April 2013 at London's Earls Court, Big Data 2013 will be co-located with Internet World catering for a wide range of sectors, all of which have a high volume, variety and velocity of data. Exhibitors will comprise companies offering software, hardware, managed services, consultancy and education to inform and inspire UK and European businesses to fully and efficiently utilise big data. Topics covered in the education programme will include data capture, data storage, data security, data analytics, business intelligence, consultancy and research.
The term "big data" has been defined by the Big Data Insight Group as "any amount of data which is too large for your existing IT infrastructure to store[4]." The report goes on to claim that the benefits that big data can deliver have the potential to revolutionise business.
Speaking about the launch, UBM Live's Sarah Tanner said:
"Big Data is a proposition which will fill a gap in the current European market for businesses that are looking for efficient solutions to manage the enormous amount of structured and unstructured data, which is often accessed from different sources and is therefore difficult to utilise, to its maximum potential to gain competitive advantage and streamline internal process.
"We are really excited to launch alongside Internet World because there are real synergies within its content - particularly with the Cloud and Hosting World feature which debuted this year. Many of the Internet World visitors will have big data concerns, projects and questions so we anticipate that the co-location will work extremely well.
"The UK big data market is in its infancy at the moment, with the Big Data Insight Group finding that 67% of people are either unfamiliar with the term or still in the education process. We aim to lead the way by providing the education and tools needed for this uninformed group as well as inspiring those already engaged to move further with their big data projects."
