LONDON, April 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
Ahead of the 1,000th EuroMillions draw on Friday 21st April, figures from Euro-Millions.com reveal that UK players have scooped an amazing £6.95 billion so far.
EuroMillions was launched in February 2004, with players from the UK, France and Spain competing weekly for multimillion-pound prizes. Thirteen years on, there are now nine participating countries who play twice a week, and the game is about to be drawn for the one thousandth time.
Delving into its comprehensive results archive, Euro-Millions.com can reveal that UK players have shared an amazing £6.95 billion between themselves, whilst the overall Europe-wide prize pool stands at €34.5 billion, with a fortnight still to go until the milestone draw.
Ayrshire couple Christine and Colin Weir hold the honour of being the UK's biggest ever EuroMillions winners, having banked £161.6 million in July 2011, and are closely followed by Adrian and Gillian Bayford of Cambridgeshire, who landed £148.6 million in August 2012.
To celebrate this monumental event, Euro-Millions.com is giving away 1,000 tickets for the thousandth EuroMillions draw, helping the celebrations go with a bang!
A spokesperson for Euro-Millions.com said, "The fact that EuroMillions is about to hit one thousand draws shows how popular this massive game is. UK players have enjoyed fantastic success over the years and, aside from the regular huge jackpots, at least four millionaires are created in the country every week thanks to Millionaire Maker."
