UK Royal Navy Demands Improvement to Mine Countermeasures Cooperation
LONDON, March 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
The underdevelopment of technologies dedicated to countering the threat of naval mine warfare in favour of other defence capabilities in recent years has created an urgent priority for navies around the world to close the gap before adversaries can exploit this diminished capability.
The first step in this process for the year ahead is the assembling of senior officers and commercial solution providers at the Mine Countermeasures Conference in London this April. http://www.minecountermeasures.com
"The potential threat from sea mines continues to grow with more than 50 nations with stocks of over 250,000 mines," explained Captain Andrew Elvin, a mine warfare specialist with the Royal Navy, who has ongoing operational experience in the Middle East.
Captain Elvin will be briefing the room of international naval officers on the on-going development of integrated multinational capability and capacity as the situation inches toward a critical point.
