VanQuoteDirect Offer Their Advice on Saving Fuel
LONDON, March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
VanQuoteDirect, a part of Bedford Insurance Services, has been looking at the most effective ways to save fuel. It was announced in the Budget this month that the cost of fuel is set to rise by around 3p a litre in August; this has left many motorists, and professional drivers, angry and frustrated as motorists feel that they are bearing the brunt of government taxes.
Therefore, VanQuoteDirect, has decided to offer their advice on how best to save fuel in such expensive times. Joe de Vries, part of VanQuoteDirect, has been explaining: "It's important to make sure you choose the van that suits your needs. If you choose a van that is too large then you will just simply waste fuel carrying around extra weight that is not needed. It's much cheaper to run a smaller van that is fully loaded than to run a half empty large van."
He went on to add: "Make sure you only drive around with what you need in the van each day. There's no need to lug around items on a Monday that you may not require until Thursday that week, for example, as this will just weigh your van down unnecessarily, and thus consume fuel unnecessarily."
Further advice was then offered that included checking tyre pressures regularly. A tyre that is underinflated can significantly add to your fuel bills by as much as 3% whilst also cutting your tyre life. In addition, engine oil and water levels must too be checked regularly. Driving around with inadequate levels can increase fuel consumption, as can a blocked diesel particulate filter (DPF). Blocked filters can increase fuel consumption dramatically, so it will be important to ensure that the DPF is clean and clear.
VanQuoteDirect have also suggested that by simply driving with economy and fuel consumption in mind, you will be able to save a noticeable amount. Driving economically can decrease your fuel bill by as much as 10%. This can be achieved by keeping your speed down and revs at a minimum.
