Varian Partnering to Return Radiotherapy Machines Back into Operation at Addington
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, July 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Varian Medical Systems (NYSE: VAR) is working with regional authorities in KwaZulu Natal to bring two of its radiotherapy machines into operation. Varian is stepping in to help ensure the two linear accelerators at Addington Hospital can be made clinically operational and start treating patients.
"Regardless of past issues involved, our top priority is to ensure cancer patients in KwaZulu Natal can again receive the best treatments available," says Jean-Luc Devleeschauwer, president of Varian's operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa. "Varian works globally with local healthcare providers to address the growing need for quality cancer care. We are now collaborating closely with the local ministry of health to assess and support the installed machines and do everything possible to return them to clinical practice."
Earlier this year, Varian established a direct sales and service operation in Johannesburg to better serve the growing cancer population in South Africa. Oncology departments across South Africa use Varian's equipment to deliver state-of-the-art cancer treatments.
