Visteon will exhibit several scalable HUD solutions targeting all segments from entry-level to luxury vehicles, including its range of first-to-market combiner HUDs, which project a virtual image in front of the driver using a transparent screen mounted on top of the instrument panel. Auto China 2016 will mark the debut of Visteon's premium combiner HUD – considered a potential alternative to windshield head-up displays for certain high-end vehicles.
Visteon's exhibit is at E34A04 (between Hall E3 and E4) at the China International Exhibition Center New Venue (Tianzhu).
Demonstrating the breadth of its core HUD capabilities, Visteon is displaying four levels of combiner HUD that incorporate kinematics concepts adapting to size and movement of the screen, leading-edge picture-generation units (PGUs), optical design and high image quality in a compact package – expanding head-up technology beyond the luxury segment to mass-market vehicles.
"Combiner HUD brings head-up technology to mass-market vehicles through a compact, affordable solution with a high-quality display, and with that, Visteon can offer customized solutions to meet expectations for different level products required by the China market as well as global customers, " said Bob Vallance, customer business group lead.
Designed to keep the driver's attention on the road, HUD applications are gaining popularity as a preferred interface for vital information, such as vehicle speed and warning messages, to be displayed as a virtual image directly in the driver's field of vision. Affordable technology solutions, the adoption of adaptive driver assistance systems (ADAS), and consumer demand for safety are bringing HUD applications into mass-market vehicles – creating a segment that is projected grow at a cumulative annual rate of more than 20 percent.
"Visteon's global electronics platform covers the full market spectrum of HUD products, providing a strong foundation for collaboration with automakers serving China and the global market," said Matthew M. Cole, product development head. This collaboration, he said, leads to developing upcoming applications that satisfy driver information preferences, applying the latest human-machine interaction (HMI) inputs and interactions.
"In the future, we will continue to invest to grow core competencies for future HUD developments, including virtual imaging, backlighting and opto-mechanical design capabilities, as well as kinematics system integration, allowing for improvements of optical quality and product robustness," Cole said.
Visteon plans to launch its latest combiner HUD solutions with a number of automakers in the Asian and European markets during the 2016 and 2017 model years.
