MELBOURNE, May 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- They died far too young. Both died in car crashes at the age of 24. Both were on the cusp of greatness.
While the worlds of actor James Dean and cricketer Ben Hollioake were never going to collide, they shared remarkably similar stories as far as their precocious talents are concerned.
Born in Australia in 1977, Ben moved to England as a nine year old. In 1997, Ben and his older brother Adam made their English Test debut in the same game, becoming only the third set of brothers to do so.
"Ben's death in 2002 was tragic and robbed English cricket of a great player with enormous potential," says Charles Leski. "He had the sad distinction of being the youngest England Test cricketer to die."
"Following his death his family established the Ben Hollioake Fund to raise money for charity. We're honoured to have this chance to support a worthy cause by offering for sale some very important mementos of his career."
Among the items to be sold is a collection of Ben's England cricket clothing. There are 44 items including his training shirts, training shorts, One Day International (ODI) trousers, track suits, t-shirts, and England tie. Also included is Ben's England ODI cap featuring a Crown over Three Lions logo.
