Wayne Rooney Scores Top Spot On Wealth-X List Of English Premier League's Wealthiest Players
LONDON, July 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- With the 24th season of the English Premier League (EPL) set to kick off on August 8, Wealth-X today released a list the EPL's richest players. Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney took the top spot on the list, emerging as the wealthiest footballer in the league with a net worth of US$110 million.
Rooney, the Old Trafford skipper and England captain who will celebrate his 30th birthday in October, is also one of the highest-paid players in the EPL, raking in a salary of about US$20 million in 2015. He has played for Manchester United since 2004.
Also featured on the Wealth-X list is Rooney's German teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, who will don the Manchester United jersey following his US$23 million signing from Bayern Munich earlier this month. Schweinsteiger scored fourth place on the list with an estimated net worth of US$60 million.
John Terry, the 34-year-old captain of defending EPL champions Chelsea, is the oldest player on the list with a net worth of US$65 million.
At 27 years of age, Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero from Argentina is the youngest player on the list. He boasts an estimated personal fortune of US$55 million.
