Where was Great in 2012 - Winter Ski Season Review

After record snowfall across much of Europe, the 2011/12 ski season has finally come to an end. Ski break specialist Neilson takes a look back at this year's best ski destinations.

It's also a great resort for mixed-ability groups. A variety of pistes, from gentle nursery slopes to more challenging freeride and intermediate runs, ensured that there was something for everyone.

In terms of pure levels of snow, those taking last minute ski deals in Zermatt and Klosters were pleasantly surprised this year, with 2012 providing record snowfall for both resorts, One of Europe's most chic and popular resorts, Zermatt saw 67 inches of powder this season, providing fantastic off-piste and helo-skiing opportunities across its huge 350km high-altitude ski areas, in addition to a wide array of bars and boutiques. A favourite with the Royals and famous for its world-class skiing in an unspoilt village atmosphere, Klosters enjoyed a high of 100 inches However, North America was hit hard this year, with resorts struggling due to lack of snow: Utah's Ulta ski area saw 92 inches - 70 inches fewer than the previous year.
