GUILFORD, England, February 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
The people of the West Midlands can take a bow as the most romantic region in Britain! Scotland and London can claim a respectable second and third place, but Wales and the North East take up the last two places.
Brits aren't universally known for being romantic but Allianz Insurance found that a whopping 84% of people in the West Midlands consider their partner to be so.
The Brits 'League of Love':
1. West Midlands
2. Scotland
3. London
4. East Anglia
5. East Midlands/Yorkshire and Humberside
7. South East
8. North West
9. Wales
10. North East
Nationally, Allianz found, that one in four women can expect to receive jewellery on Valentine's Day. For those who receive a proposal to go with their jewellery, one in five engagement rings will cost between £750 to over £3,000 (the national average cost is £573).
The survey revealed that most Brits buy their gifts seven days in advance with an average spend of £65. There are still plenty of last minute panics though as one in five people buy their gift just a day or two before.
Londoners splash out an average of £88, but the West Midlands is close behind spending an average of £72.
Not everyone believes in giving gifts however and one in ten people in the East Midlands don't give any gifts at all.
Some Brits are adventurous in their approach as one in five people (20%) have either given or received an unusual gift on the day including:
1. A musical chicken
2. New teeth
3. A wooden bucket
4. A pineapple
5. Shopping trolley coin
Hardly surprising perhaps that nearly one in five people said they have been disappointed by a Valentine's gift in the past.
Insuring the ring won't be an obvious first thought but making sure that an expensive engagement ring is protected against damage or theft is important as:
• More than one in ten women (12%) have had to replace an engagement ring completely
• 72% of women who have replaced their engagement ring said it was either lost or damaged
Alan Gairns, product manager, commented: "Engagement rings are precious items both so it makes sense to arrange adequate insurance. We suggest talking to your insurer to ensure that your ring is also protected outside the home."
- Allianz carried out the research on 2000 people during 21 - 25 January 2016.
