Why Germany's New Industrial Revolution is Attracting Attention in Japan

Germany Trade & Invest is holding the 10th Japan Germany Industry Forum (JGIF) in Tokyo on November 11 and in Kyoto on November 13, 2014 under the motto "Industrie 4.0: Smart Manufacturing for the Future". Over 200 distinguished guests are expected to participate in the forum. Apart from presentations on the conditions for investments in Germany, renowned German and Japanese experts from industry and R&D will also present their positions on the importance of Industrie 4.0 for the future of production, their current and future activities in this field, and the requirements for transforming the vision into reality. One of the keynote speakers will be Prof. Dr. Zühlke, renowned Industrie 4.0 expert and chairman of the research platform "SmartFactory". Representatives of 11 German federal states will also attend this year's forum to get into contact with Japanese decision makers.
The German government is keen to strengthen its position at the forefront of Industrie 4.0. The Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Sigmar Gabriel, restated his support for the digital economy at a recent high-level IT summit, calling for closer cooperation with the mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, and automobile industry. He cited the creation of an Industrie 4.0 platform and approximately 430 million euros in funding for the digital economy until 2018. The government pursues the goal, that Germany becomes a leading provider for efficient and sustainable industrial solutions. At the same time a market for leading technologies is created, which will make it also more attractive to foreign companies, who want to invest in Germany and take part in the 4th industrial revolution.
