Media Coffee: How to Communicate with Journalists in the US

In this episode of Media Coffee we speak to US journalist Laura J. Wellington to get her top tips on crafting press releases and how best to work with reporters.

Laura is a successful technology entrepreneur, award-winning children’s entertainment creator, author and has seen her career cross into both PR and journalism.

She has written for publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Huffington Post, and is the founder of online magazine Thread MB. Laura also created the ZNEEX social app and gave the TEDx talk What's She Got That I Don't?

3 press release recommendations for comms professionals looking to connect with journalists:

  • Ensure your press release has a strong headline to draw attention – and know that less can sometimes be more
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, early in the morning, are the best times to send out press releases
  • Wait at least two days after sending a follow-up, and look to LinkedIn to connect with journalists

You can watch the full interview with Laura across the page, and our full Media Coffee archive is available to watch here.
