Nettropolis Launches Cloud Mobile Apps for Public Transport Companies in Germany
KARLSRUHE, Germany, February 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
EC funded MobiCloud project makes city transport companies more efficient
At the Nettropolis user conference in October last year a preview version of Nettropolis' Nettro®MCD application, being developed as part of the MobiCloud project, was presented to representatives of public transport companies. The application, which is being built in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Transport Company (VBK), captures operational incidents on the spot and promptly informs responsible field staff, who can then respond and take action if needed. Since this introduction, several public transport companies expressed their interest in working with Nettropolis to enable their personnel to also maximise the potential use of smartphones in their work.
From 18th to 20th February 2014 interested parties can see the mobile application in action at the IT-Trans (IT for Public Transport) exhibition in Karlsruhe. The application will enter daily use during the MobiCloud trial at VBK during 2014, and is expected to deliver:
- Operational cost savings, through control center communications efficiency improvements
- Cleanliness improvements through incident reporting
- Better informed staff
- Improved overall customer satisfaction
The MobiCloud platform, on which the application is based, enables easy development of cross-platform, cloud-based and context-aware applications and simplifies the integration with existing back-end IT systems. This dramatically reduces both the cost and complexity of developing mobile applications. This approach allows smaller companies to quickly develop and market mobile extensions for their existing business applications - a strategic objective of the European Commission, under which the project is funded with a total of 2.23 million euros.
Nettropolis' Head of Business Frank Leibold commented, "With these mobile applications, our customers can further increase the efficiency benefits of having the Nettropolis system at the heart of their operations."
The MobiCloud consortium is led by Appear (Sweden) and includes Nettropolis (Germany), EsperantoXL (the Netherlands), Costain (UK) and COMIT Projects (UK). The project's focus is to stimulate mobile services in the cloud and to support the emergence of a European ecosystem of mobile cloud application developers.
Enterprises wishing to join the MobiCloud ecosystem are encouraged to sign-up for the early adopter program where they will gain access to a cloud hosted testbed to run their own trial projects: mobicloudproject.eu
