Rising Gas Prices are to Blame for Increasing Energy Bills
PRESTON, England, August 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Ofgem have announced that green policies are not responsible for rising energy bills, according to recent figures.
The findings show that over the past 8 years, the price of gas has contributed the most to this rise in energy bills.
Homeowners and business owners were lucky enough to experience a fall in gas prices during 2004-2005, but have since experienced rising prices as Britain has imported more gas than it has produced.
Relying on imported gas has made a huge difference to these costs, as gas prices become increasingly influenced by global events.
This study also shows that the average energy bill has increased due to green stealth taxes, which fell last year to 6% of an average dual fuel bill, down from Ofgem's 8% in 2011.
Wholesale prices have also contributed to this rise in gas prices and experts at Ofgem have said: "At the moment, the cost of Government environmental and energy efficiency programmes adds around £100 on to the average energy bill of £1,300."
It has been advised that Britain should not rely too heavily on non-fossil fuels such as nuclear and renewables, as this would prevent Britain from being too dependent on imported gas, and may even make gas cheaper.
With the average bill rising from £1032 to £1345, it is causing great concern as homeowners and business owners worry that this price could rise further in the future.
Controversially, the Daily Mail reported that the average household paid up to £200 on their energy bills for green taxes; however, the Press Complaints Commission revealed that this figure was released without any necessary evidence.
Despite that customers are paying more, energy companies are reaping the rewards and are seeing a significant rise in profit margins.
As running a business is already a costly process, it is important to save money wherever you can. If your industry uses large amounts of gas and electricity on a regular basis in order to support a large workforce, it is vital that your company invests time in finding the best deals for gas and electricity in the UK.
Business Gas can help you find the best deals on your gas bills to ensure that you are making the right choice for your business.
