SoftKinetic Enables Advanced Human Tracking For PlayStation®4(PS4 ™) Gameplay
- Sophisticated 3D Vision Technology Also Available Through Unity Plug-In
BRUSSELS, Aug. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Unite 2014 Booth #7-- SoftKinetic®, the world's leading provider of 3D vision and gesture recognition solutions, today announced the availability of the DepthSense® Human Tracking Library (HTLib), created especially for PlayStation®4(PS4 ™). SoftKinetic's DepthSense HTLib was designed to track up to four players simultaneously, monitoring 21 different joints on each player, offering realistic and seamless gameplay for the PS4™. HTLib also features a plug-in for Unity 3D, and SoftKinetic is at the Unite conference in Seattle, Washington, August 20-22, 2014, booth #7, to demonstrate the library and its capabilities with both Unity and PS4™.
HTLib was created for a variety of game types that involve both active avatar animation and player behavior analysis. Already utilized on PS4™ for the popular Just Dance® franchise from Ubisoft®, HTLib can go beyond dance games to provide a sophisticated level of play in a wide variety of interactive scenarios. SoftKinetic human tracking solutions can be used in conjunction with the PlayStation®Camera for PS4™, Kinect™ or SoftKinetic's own line of DepthSense® cameras. In addition to PS4™, SoftKinetic's solutions also work on Android and Windows platforms.
"In all of the ways SoftKinetic brings 3D vision technologies to life, gaming is definitely one of the most creative," said Eric Krzeslo, co-founder and chief marketing officer at SoftKinetic. "We are very excited by the new Human Tracking Library and the sophistication it brings to some of the most popular games available on PS4™. We're especially eager to see what developers will do with the Library, as we are confident they will continue to create innovative game plays."
The HTLib for PS4™ is available with samples and demos, and developers are already using its full range of capabilities in Unity 3D and other game engines.
"Ubisoft worked closely with SoftKinetic to bring Just Dance 2014® to the PS4, and we are planning to use HTLib for some new titles for the PS4, including Just Dance 2015® and Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show®," said Martin Oliver, producer, Ubisoft Reflections.
"At Grandé Games we have focused on the unique potential of motion control in gaming, and SoftKinetic's DepthSense HTLib has allowed us to extract the player silhouette in a comfortable and straight forward way in Unity 3D," said Georg Graf, co-founder and programmer of Grandé Games. "We are thrilled to be able to realize our game, Commander Cherry's Puzzled Journey, on the PS4 platform."
Both the HTLib for PS4™ and the Unity plug-in encourage creative game development, making each a perfect fit for indie developers as well as major game studios.
