FRANKFURT, Germany, August 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Uber has seen massive growth in Germany as its user base increased fivefold since the start of 2014
Uber today announced major expansion plans for its hugely popular UberBLACK and UberPOP services in Germany. The country is one of the fastest growing markets in Europe as drivers and riders say they want Uber everywhere in Germany.
Uber is already in 5 German cities - Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Dusseldorf - but we are also seeing huge demand in other cities across the country as people look to get a more affordable and efficient way to move around. We're seeing most demand for Uber in Cologne, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Bonn, Essen, Dortmund and Potsdam with thousands of people signing up for the service.
From luxury transportation to innovative and cost-effective ride-sharing, Uber is offering choice, safety, and convenience to tech-savvy Germans who have embraced smartphone solutions such as Uber to get around their cities. Today more than half of German mobile phone users have a smartphone and this is set to increase to 67% by 2016.
Fabian Nestmann, Uber Germany spokesperson said:
"This is a really exciting time for Uber in Germany. We are getting thousands of emails every week from people all over the country who want to join the platform and we have seen tens of thousands of people all across Germany looking to use Uber to get a ride.
"Germans use Uber because uberPOP and UberBLACK are the most reliable, most economical, and above all the absolute safest way to get around town.
"Since the start of the year our user base have grown 5X which shows that Germans are embracing Uber and the service we provide. Demand is so great all across the country that we expect to double in size by the end of the year and plan to bring Uber to more and more cities across Germany. Cologne and Stuttgart are on the agenda most likely this year and may be even more cities too."
The Uber generation is embracing innovative technologies and services in Germany, as Uber enters open dialogue with policy-makers nationwide to help them better understand the benefits of services like ride-sharing. uberPOP is a fresh, innovative ride-sharing solution that combines both safety and flexibility by connecting riders with drivers to make better use of the cars on the road, which supports the environment and helps drivers share the cost of car ownership.
