UK Government Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) Uses Ontology
LONDON, May 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Ontology's graph-data and semantic modelling platform, Ontology 4, helps DECC analyse and manage data for assumptions in energy models
The UK Government Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) are responsible for managing and overseeing sophisticated models of energy supply and consumption.
The assumptions on which these models are based represent a complex dataset spread over many sources and when seeking ways to improve the way in which this data is analysed and governed, the DECC saw an opportunity for ICT innovation and worked with UK software vendor Ontology Systems to apply their graph-data and semantic modelling platform, Ontology 4, to build a solution that enables their team to analyse their data at a single point, regardless of its format or source.
"Ontology's graph-data and semantic search-led approach enables Department of Energy and Climate Change ("DECC") to quickly and easily analyse business critical models," commented Dr Thomas Webb, Modelling Integrity Engineer at DECC. "This will help the department improve the management and quality of our modelling assumptions."
"Although our primary market is our Intelligent 360 for Network Operators product line, aimed at telecommunications operators, our underlying graph-data and semantic modelling platform - Ontology 4 - can easily be used to solve many data analysis and integration problems," says Leo Zancani, CTO of Ontology Systems. "DECC's willingness to innovate and try new things has paid off, and this project shows how easy it is for organisations to apply our platform to their own data variety challenges."
