INNSBRUCK, Austria, April 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
During the international trade show INTERALPIN, the Vietnamese tourism group TUNG LAM DEVELOPMENT JSC and the French group POMA - specialist in ropeway transport - signed an amendment to the contract for two new MULTIX gondola lifts in order to supply new Diamond Evo VIP cabins. These new MULTIX gondola lifts will be installed at Yen Tu Mountain, an important Buddhist pilgrimage site located 50 km from Ha Long, Vietnam. During the famous Yen Tu Spring Festival, the site and its pagodas welcome up to 70,000 tourists per day over a three-month period beginning in February.

TUNG LAM DEVELOPMENT JSC is one of POMA's biggest customers in Vietnam. The company is in charge of tourist development at the Yen Tu spiritual site and has been trusting POMA with the construction of its ropeways to access the top of the mountain and the sacred area since 2001. POMA built the first gondola lift in 2001 and a second in 2006. The initial gondola lift was replaced in 2009 by a new MULTIX lift with Ruby cabins in order to increase capacity.
The highest point at Yen Tu Mountain can be found at around 1,068m and the access to the top is rather steep and difficult. Before 2001, the site only welcomed approximately 10,000 visitors annually. This amount of visitors has increased sharply from 2001 thanks to a professional management of the tourism infrastructures coupled with the installation of the first gondola lift.
In recent years, Yen Tu has welcomed up to 1.7 million tourists with a peak season during the Lunar New Year Festival. Pilgrims have to wait from 3 to 4 hours before using the existing gondola lifts.
As a result, both partners have signed a new contract for the construction of two new gondola lifts in order to deliver a much better service. This agreement reinforces the strong partnership that has existed between the two companies since 2001. With four installations in service at Yen Tu in the future, TUNG LAM DEVELOPMENT JSC has proven its trust in POMA.
TUNG LAM DEVELOPMENT JSC chose two MULTIX detachable-grip gondola lifts. The lower lift will be equipped with 10-seater Diamond cabins, and the higher lift will reuse the existing 9-seater Ruby cabins. The first lift that was using Ruby gondolas will be equipped with Diamond EVO 8/10 cabins with glass floor, led lights and sound system. The new generation of Diamond EVO cabins has been developed and manufactured in Veyrins, France, at the Sigma Composite headquarters (the cabin division of the POMA Group) and provides more light, higher comfort, newer design, VIP leather seating, and modern sliding-door access. The cabins come in several versions for ski resorts and tourist sites.
The preservation of the exceptional Yen Tu site and its ecosystem were the main focus of the final project. The work has just begun, and the commissioning of the two new gondola lifts is scheduled for the end of this year.
