Virtustream Invests in the Future of the Lithuanian Technology Industry
KAUNAS, Lithuania, October 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Company announces sponsorship of Kaunas University of Technology PhD scholarship at second annual cloud conference
Virtustream, the enterprise-class cloud provider and EMC Federation company, is strengthening its partnership with the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) by agreeing to sponsor PhD students studying there for the next four years. Virtustream has made the announcement at its second Lithuanian Cloud Conference in Kaunas, hosted by KTU.
The conference focused on the cloud security landscape and the challenges that are facing organisations across Europe. Keith Lynn, vice president of product development at Virtustream was joined by speakers from KTU, looking at these practical issues and the wider marketplace. This included a detailed presentation of how KTU operates in the cloud itself. Students were also advised as to how they can pursue a career in cloud security by Virtustream's Vaidotas Simaitis. Before the close of the conference, students had the chance to network with experts and establish the next steps that they need to take to build a career in the technology sector.
"From our operations in Lithuania, we know how healthy the tech talent pool is in the country," said Kevin Reid, President and CTO at Virtustream. "We want to give students at KTU the chance to look at real business problems and expose them to the application of technology in the workplace at an early stage in their education-setting them up for success in their careers. If we do this, the burgeoning Lithuanian technology sector will go from strength to strength, driven by a talented, young workforce. The future here is bright and we want to build upon the great work that we have already seen coming out of the country."
In addition, KTU is giving attendees of the event the opportunity to earn a scholarship funded by Virtustream. Those in attendance were asked to design a proposal centred around the protection of corporate data in a cloud-based storage system. Students will have to show an understanding of data ownership and control, with further details and specifications disclosed at the conference. Entries to the competition will need to be submitted for judging by October 11, ahead of the winner being announced October 19. Entries will be judged by experts from the KTU faculty and the Virtustream Security Team.
